I am a Holistic Nutritionist Coach. A change in my nutritional journey began nine years ago. In 2011, I was diagnosed with hypertension known as high blood pressure. At this time, my physician advised me to begin a blood pressure regiment. Medication was advised to control my blood pressure. As this was being advised, I recalled sitting there becoming numb. I could hear this physician talking but nothing was registering. My thoughts wavered in concern and worry. After his diagnose, the nurse entered the room with two prescriptions and the need to schedule a follow up visit. I was offered no alternatives to resolving my diagnose. As I walked out of the office, I reflected how I knew individual claims that once one start taking high blood pressure medication it would be hard getting off them. Well, I realized that I did not walk into this physician’s office to get on a possible lifelong medication. I wish I had remembered the names of the prescriptions prescribed. I know that many people are most likely taking the same medication for a lifetime. As for me, I have always been a curious minded individual. My curiosity led me to seek alternatives to my diagnose. I knew this would be a big challenge. My new journey began. My first question was “what have I done to get hypertension. After months of research, I was led to believe that the food I was eating had a tremendous effect on the health of my mind, body and soul. Now keep in mind, I am from New Orleans where food is our culture. This would be an even greater challenge. I had to decide whether taking lifelong medication was something I was willing to do or tweeting my dietary plan to see if I could take charge of my hypertension diagnose. Long story short, I choose the latter. Now nine years later, I have realized nine years ago I made one of the greatest, most rewarding decision of my life! Today, I no longer have hypertension, as well as allergies, eczema or obesity. I’m also free of medication and weight loss programs. I only visit my physician for annual checkups and to obtain my health numbers. As a CHN, I’m a plant -based nutritionist who has seen the positive affects eliminating animal and dairy products. My goal is to share my story to help others achieve their healthiest potential. I am now living my best nutritional life.
